Margate is an attractive stop on a day trip with its sandy beach, pretty park and bustling centre. In the background the Wellington Range looms large with Mount Wellington and the formation known as Sleeping Beauty seen to good advantage. The Margate Train market is of interest as it is housed in the last Tasmanian passenger train. One kilometre south, Meredith's Orchard sells fruit and vegetables fresh from the farm. In autumn, apple and pear varieties seldom seen elsewhere can be obtained and the summer berries are a delight. Dru Park is a popular picnic spot.
