These spectacular mountains, part of the Hartz Mountains National Park, are only a short trip from the city. Spectacular tarns carved out by glaciers and jagged ranges produce a unique skyline and the beautiful Hartz Peak crowns them all. A favourite among locals and visitors alike, these mountains provide the perfect platform to enjoy the wilderness or partake in activities such as walking, camping, rock climbing, hiking and, in winter, skiing. The summit of Hartz peak gives the visitor a spectacular glimpse into the heart of the south-west wilderness, but the walk is quite arduous.
