To visit Ross is to step back in time. The former garrison town and coach stop on the road north is almost perfectly preserved with many fine sandstone buildings and wide tree lined streets, minus the bustle of other beautiful villages such as Richmond. The famous bridge should be enjoyed from the riverbank in order to fully appreciate the magnificent carvings work of a convict stonemason. Some of Australia's finest wool is grown in the district. A visit to the Tasmanian Wool Centre will show why the product is so highly regarded throughout the world.
