WebsiteThe appropriately named Backspace is found on the top floor of the red brick section at the rear of the Theatre Royal and was an area originally left unfinished due to lack of funding. However in 1982 its promise as an alternative performance venue was recognised. With enthusiasm, hard work and very little money, the space was transformed into an intimate theatre seating no more than 100. Backspace has launched many theatre companies and shows. Patrons can enjoy a drink in the adjoining Old Nick's Bar.
