Monumento a Guillem de Montgrí
Monument to Honor the Conquerer of Ibiza
Plaza de España
Ibiza, Baleares 7800
In the heart of the old part of Ibiza city (declared a World Heritage site by Unesco), next to the Town Hall building, there is a monument to the Catalan, Guillem de Montgrí, who in 1235 commanded the Catalan troops that conquered Ibiza for King Jaime I. The reclining statue in the Plaza de España is a replica of the one in Gerona, on the tomb of Guillem de Montgrí. The replica was presented to Ibiza by the authorities in Gerona in the 1970's.
