Website | EmailThe university's botanical gardens, dating from 1911, lie in the district of Hötting and successfully fuse the pleasures of relaxation and learning. A plethora of alpine flora and fauna are nurtured here: edelweiss, gentian, alpine roses, arnica and some endangered alpine flowers, many of which are protected by conservation laws. The attractions here do extend beyond the alpine theme, with more than 5,000 different species of plant from all over the world. Its spectacular tropical greenhouses open on Thursdays and every first Sunday of the month from 1pm-4pm. Tours of the greenhouses can be arranged and, "smell and taste" gardens, specially geared towards the special needs of visitors and the visually impaired.
