Mısır Çarşı is a historical market constructed in 1664 by royal architects. Originally built in wood, the market got a complete makeover in 1943. Though smaller in size compared to the Grand Bazaar, this bazaar is easily accessible through the six gates which open up to different districts in the city. It houses more than 80 shops selling spices, teas, oils, medicinal plants, dry fruits, sweets, nuts, aphrodisiacs and lokum (a Turkish specialty). For centuries the bazaar has been the haunt of spice lovers and healers who revel in the intoxicating aromas of its herbs and spices.
