Jerusalem
Purim
Drink & Dress Up
Throughout the City
Jerusalem,
A joyous festival, this celebration remembers Esther saving the Jews from extermination during the Persian empire. Before the festival, friends exchange food gifts and presents are given to the poor. Jews are commanded to get drunk to the point they can't distinguish between the phrases 'Blessed is Mordechai' (the hero of the story) and 'cursed is Haman' (the Babylonian courtier who tried to kill all the Jewish people). Kids and adults don fancy dress, listen to the Purim story and eat triangular, poppy-seed filled pastries called 'Haman's ears.' The Jerusalem Theater provides free family entertainment.
