Rosh Hashana
Jewish New Year
Thoughout the city
Jerusalem,
This is the Jewish New Year. This holiday marks the beginning of a 10-day period of introspection and asking for forgiveness, before Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish calendar. The New Year is celebrated by eating different combinations of food. On the first day of Rosh Hashana, Jews go to a source of water, to empty out the crumbs from their pockets in a symbolic act that represents throwing away sins. In the Old Jerusalem center, a ram's horn (called a shofar) is blown 100 times with different combinations of notes.
