Lag B'Omer
Night of bonfires
Various venues
Jerusalem,
The 33rd day between Pesach (Passover) and Shavout, it is an opportunity to take time out and rejoice. This festival occurs because of a plague that took place over the whole Omer period in the year 135 AD. In this one day in 135 AD, there was a break from the locusts and plague that ravaged the area. Many Israelis choose to celebrate their weddings on this day as a symbolic measure. It is also customary for people to sit outside around huge bonfires on the eve of Lag B'Omer. Be sure to see the bonfires in parks and other public spaces.
