This is the most important feast of the Christian calendar, commemorating the resurrection of Christ. Ceremonies at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre follow a strict schedule in order to accommodate the major Christian communities who have rights in this church. Information on liturgies can be had from the Christian Information Center. Roman Catholic and Orthodox dates for Holy Week and Easter do not always coincide. The Orthodox "Ceremony of the Holy Fire" takes place at midnight. The Greek Orthodox Patriarch enters the Anastasis and emerges with the Paschal Candle, whose light is quickly passed throughout the church to light the candles of pilgrims. Many pilgrims keep the blessed candles alight until they make their way to their homes.
