The durian season sees a large influx of durian junkies making a mad scramble for the little town of Ayer Papan every year. Known as the "king of fruits", this football-sized fruit covered with a green thorny shell is renowned for its overpowering smell. Fans can purchase fresh durians straight off the plantations. Other tropical fruits on sale include sugar cane, bananas, jackfruit and so forth. One can also engage in kayaking and boating activities along the 1.3-kilometre beach. Getting There: Take the Kota Tinggi Road leading to Mersing. The Ayer Papan estate lies just next to Mersing town.
