Used mostly by business travelers, it sees fewer pleasure-seeking passengers than the Montego Bay-based Sangster International Airport. An average of 1.6 million travelers use the airport annually. It is situated on the scenic Palisadoes peninsula overlooking the world’s seventh largest natural harbour, and it is in close proximity to the infamous pirate capital, Port Royal. Norman Manley International Airport is located on 228 hectares of land. The island's capital, Kingston, is just ten miles away, and the business district of New Kingston is approximately fifteen miles away. Movement within the airport is by foot, but there are porters to assist with carrying luggage. Information desks, directional signs and electronic displays are strategically placed to provide guidance for visitors. Parking facilities are available at the airport for both long-term and short-term use. Average cost is JMD40 (approximately USD.85) per entry. There are various means of transportation available. These include licensed taxis (sporting the red PPV plates), tour companies, rental cars and a public passenger bus service run by the government-owned Jamaica Urban Transit Company. There are a number of restaurants and snack counters located at the airport. These include the Duckanoo Den, Millennium Bar and the Ohtaheti Restaurant, where fast food as well as full course meals can be had. Internet kiosks are available in the Departure Lounge for the use of passengers. A trained nurse staffs the First Aid station. Nine duty-free shops are located within the airport for the added convenience of last minute shopping. Items on sale include flowers, fruits, CDs, books, cigarettes and Jamaican products such as T-shirts and liquor.
