On this day, there is a ceremony held at the Istana Negara, the royal palace. This is the time when the King bestows awards on Malaysians who have contributed notable or meritorious service to the country. Apart from the ceremony, there are also exhibitions, traditional entertainment and cultural events. One of the highlights of the festival is the "Trooping of Colours" presented by the armed forces in honor of the King. It is also a gazetted public holiday. Most events are free and open to the public.
