On the 30th of August every year, between 10a and midnight, Malaysians in Kuala Lumpur have a gala time celebrating the eve of the country's independence day. One gets to enjoy a colourful fireworks display, dance and cultural performances, and concerts by local artistes. At the stroke of midnight, the Jalur Gemilang (Malaysia's flag) will be raised, as patriotic Malaysians and tourists cheer and shout 'Merdeka!' National Day celebrations continue the next day all over the country.
