Kuan Yin, usually portrayed as a beautiful maiden in a flowing white dress, standing on a lotus flower, is the Chinese Goddess of Mercy. Her name literally means "the one who hears the cries of the world." Sometimes she is displayed with a thousand arms, many eyes and several heads signifying her capability to see places where her help is needed. Festivals in honor of Kuan Yin, are held during the second, sixth and ninth moons of the Chinese calendar. Devotees visit the temple to pray and make offerings to her.
