EmailOfficially opened on the 23rd of December 1909 by the then-Sultan of Selangor, this is the city's oldest surviving mosque. Located at the tip of Sungai Kelang and Sungai Gombak, Masjid Jamek was built by the notable British architect, A.B. Hubback and designed after the Moghul mosque in North India. Cupolas and minarets top the brick walls and arched colonnades. Three domes surmount the prayer hall; the central dome is 21.3 meters high and is flanked by two lower domes. Until the opening of the Masjid Negara (the national mosque)in 1965, Masjid Jamek served as Kuala Lumpur's principal mosque.
