EmailThis stunning cathedral, located on the banks of the River Shannon, provides a fine spectacle on the approach into Limerick. It is steeped in history, with many relics dating from the days of the siege of Limerick in 1691. The Gothic style of architecture predominates, although the original building actually dates from the twelfth century. The building contains many fine antiquities. Notable features include the pre-Reformation stone altar, as well as the leper's squint and the misericords, which were the seats used by the clergy in mediaeval times. Today the cathedral is still used for services, and is open daily.
