This bust depicts Carlos França, who was born in Torres Verdes in 1877. A great scientist, he published 187 scientific studies in the field of bacteriology, but it was França's work with meningitis and it's treatment that was most notable. He was also responsible for leading the Hygiene and Bacteriological department in France during World War I. He lived most of his life in Colares where he passed away in 1926.
