A visit to "Quinta da Regaleira" is an adventure from the beginning to the end. The Iniciático Well is one of the most enigmatic places in the estate. Its entrance is like a boulder, and to get in, you must first go through a rotating door, which is hidden, there to keep unwanted people out. This well looks like an inverted tower that plunges into the earth. It is thought to be connected to the Masonic initiation rites, those of death, birth and earth (as in mother-nature).
