The Unknown Soldier is a monument built in honour of the soldiers from Sintra, that fought in World War I, from 1916 to 1918, and those who were present in the Portuguese Colonial War. Behind the soldier's statue a marble block rises, toped by an armillary sphere representing the Portuguese fatherland.
