WebsiteThe Moslems built the castle walls in the VIII century, in Mons Lunae (Mount of the Moon, name given to Sintra´s mountain ridge by the Romans), and they follow the ridge's contour in an amazing way. The castle has five towers and in it, there is a cistern that provides the water supply to the Palácio da Vila. The approach to the Torre Real is 500 steps and near the entrance lies the ruins of the Igreja de S.Pedro.
