S. Lazaro's Chapel was built in the XV century, on the site of a leper colony. The chapel has influences at the request of Queen Leonor (wife of King João II), who after the death of her son, D. Afonso, had the family crest, (a pelican and a shrimp net), carved into the chapel's main dome.
