This convent was initially designed to be built in Janas, but, after noticing that the terrain wasn't fertile and that the water was scarce, they moved the religious order to Colares.
Near the convent's entrance is a cross with a broken shaft, which inspired "Alexandre Herculano" in the poem, "Cruz Mutilada"(Mutilated cross).
