Website | EmailThis shop began as a point of sale of pastries made by someone in the monastery that is close to this shop in Belem in 1834 and came to be known as Pastéis de Belém. The secret of these pastries has been mastered by the confectioners here who make them by hand...and the amazing part being that the recipe has not changed to the present day! Even today they taste and smell exactly the same as they did when first made in 1834. Their specialty here is the custard cream tart that is slightly burnt on the top and sprinkled with a dash of ground cinnamon. The best way to eat it is when it is warm! Pastéis de Belém is always crowded with tourists and visitors, so be prepared for a long wait to find a place to seat yourself.
