Originally occupied by Macau's first chapel in 1558, this site has seen a few fires over the centuries. The church of Santo Antonio was first built in 1638, only to burn to the ground in 1809. Rebuilding of the church was completed in 1810, but another fire in 1874 necessitated further repairs in 1875. The last fire occurred in 1930. Let us hope there are no more! Santo Antonio himself is a military saint with the rank of Captain in Portugal's armed forces. For a procession round the city's fortifications, check out his annual feast day on 13 June.
