Though presently in ruins, the Ayuntamiento deserves to be noted by every visitor to Intramuros. The grandest edifice in the whole of the Walled City, it housed administrative halls and was also known as the Marble Palace. The lavish interiors were adorned with wood carvings, carpets, porcelain vases and the like. The Ayutamiento was destroyed in World War II. The reconstruction of this historic building is one of the principal projects of the Intramuros Administration.
