This event has become bigger than Ben Hur in the local arts circuit. In 1983, the St. Kilda Film Festival began humbly as a means to showcase the short films of local film-making talent. It has since grown into a popular draw card, with lengthy queues for each session over the six-day festival period. While faithful to its original founding principle, the St. Kilda Film Festival may not be as glamorous as the higher profile Melbourne International Film Festival, but it is certainly as popular.
