Website | EmailOne of the most popular Jewish festivals, especially for children, Chanukah dually celebrates the Maccabian defeat of the Greek invasion of the Holy Land in 164 BCE and the miracle of a day's supply of oil in the Temple lasting a full eight nights. As part of its outreach work, Chabad puts on a free family event culminating in patron Rabbi Yosel Gutnick being lifted by a cherry picker to light Melbourne's largest menorah. There is also a spectacular firework display, Israeli dancing, free rides for children and kosher food and drink. Admission is free.
