WebsiteSoccer is well supported in Melbourne, mainly due to its large ethnic community who brought their love for the game from all corners of the globe. The city hosts two sides in the national competition, South Melbourne (premiers in 1998 and 1999) and the Melbourne Knights. The National Soccer League consists of 14 teams representing all Australian capital cities as well as large regional centres such as Newcastle and Wollongong (the 2000 premiers). A team from Auckland, New Zealand joined in 2000. The season normally runs from October to March. Check web site or ring for details of locations and times of Melbourne matches.
