The Ballarat region is a relatively new grape growing area. Over 400 metres above sea level, the area is quite cool but an extended growing season means very good fruit. The district produces mainly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir for both sparkling and table wine. Mt. Beckworth produces high quality wines Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet and Shiraz with good, ripe flavors. Prices range from AUD14-AUD16. On a day trip to Ballarat, it is well worth a slight de-tour to visit this winery.
