More café than restaurant, Nelayan puts the "no" in no-frills. Speedy lunchtime service makes it a mad, manic eatery. Being close to Swinburne University means Nelayan is popular amongst money-strapped students. The decor is basically non-existent, but the lunchtime special is what people come for; an ever-changing array of daily treats, including tripe soup, sambal eggs, fried fish cake, and spiced ox tongue. Arrive early to get the food at its freshest. Alternatively, buy from the adjoining Indonesian grocery store and try it yourself.
