The only place in Melbourne to experience real Afghan cuisine. Owner Nouria Salehi, a nuclear physicist, initially used the restaurant to get visas and jobs for her family and other Afghani refugees. The traditionally designed building seats 60 downstairs and 60 upstairs, where cushions under an Afghan tent create an authentic atmosphere. The reasonably priced menu has some Indian influences as well as distinctive Afghan cuisine. There are more vegetarian/vegan than meat dishes, with little use of eggs and dairy products. However, carnivores will be tempted by tasty curries and kebabs. Traditional desserts include halva pudding. Licenced.
