Tucked away in a leafy corner of South Melbourne, O'Connell's is a fine place for a quick drink or a more extended afternoon or evening. The tastefully decorated bar induces a feeling of warm familiarity. Large windows allow plenty of sunlight and the courtyard is also inviting. On chilly nights, head for one of the open fires. St Patrick's Day (March 17) is the pub's busiest time. Meals, with a Middle Eastern/Mediterranean flavour, are available in the award-winning restaurant. The wine list is extensive, but if you just want a beer or mixed spirit you will pay regular prices.
