The big daddy of Lygon Street's Italian restaurants, Il Primo seats 240 either inside or outside under umbrellas. Waiters are dressed in standard black and white and the menu is big, broad and hearty in traditional Italian style--no surprises. The decor may be rather chintzy and cheesy, but, hey, this is Lygon Street. It is unpretentious, relaxed and informal and has proven popular for business lunches and group get-togethers. Bruschetta, focaccia, antipasto, pasta, garlic prawns, veal parmigiana--if it is Italian cuisine, you will find it on the menu here. Watch out for the subtle Australian influence though, such as warm kangaroo salad.
