Walking into McGills gives you that feeling that you are entering a world that is very serious about books. Downstairs on the left is stationery and a large range of newspapers and magazines. To the right is general stock, packed to the ceiling. Upstairs are the more technical subjects, ranging from knitting to architecture. The staff at the enquiries desk is knowledgeable and mail order is available. The fact that the shop is open from 6am lets you know its newspaper selling is no sideline.
