Housing 150 odd shops aligned in a haphazard grid, Heera Panna Shopping Center is considered to be Mumbai's first 'mall'. Apart from the World Trade Center and a few deluxe hotels, there existed no other shopping arcades that were centrally air-conditioned and offered a variety of products. It's no longer the 70's, but business at Heera Panna has never been more brisk. Cellphones, watches, handycams, hardware, iPods and iTouches, perfumes and designer wear, music and stereo systems, lava lamps, Playstations, antiques and everything else but the kitchen sink is up for grabs. Most shops operate on a 'no returns, no refunds' policy and not all take credit cards, so do what it takes to ensure you don't end up with a lemon! If it isn't an authorized retailer (like Nike, Nokia or Titan), haggling over the price is the norm. Visit a variety of shops before you buy and insist on a bill. Heera Panna has a car park. Happy bargain hunting!
