Website | EmailNot far from Liberty Island and the Statue of Liberty stands Ellis Island, former gateway to the United States. Between 1892 and 1954, over 12 million immigrants landed here. In 1990, the long disused buildings were restored and the Immigration Museum was born. Ellis Island is accessible by ferry from Battery Park in Lower Manhattan and Liberty State Park in New Jersey.
