WebsiteBuilt in 1799, Gracie Mansion is one of the best examples of Federal architecture in New York City. Successful merchant Archibald Gracie was the original inhabitant. Fiorello La Guardia moved into the mansion in 1942, preferring it to his palatial residence on Riverside Drive. It has been the official mayor’s residence ever since. Tours, which include the public rooms, the private apartments, garden and surrounding Carl Schurz Park, can be arranged by appointment.
