Website | EmailFounded in 1971, the Altstadtfest (Old Town Festival) attracts over a million visitors every year, making it the largest folklore event in the country. The festival offers a broad programme of attractions including processions and concerts. Don't worry if you are not a fan of folk music, as all tastes are catered for, from jazz to classical. There is also plenty to taste in terms of food and drink at the 'gastronomy market' and at numerous restaurants and beer gardens on Schütt Island and Hans-Sachs-Platz. The highlights of the festival are the firework display and the fischerstechen, a kind of jousting tournament on the river.
