WebsiteThe protestant Egidienkirche is Nuremberg's only baroque-style church. It is situated in the affluent Egidien quarter, which was were many of the city's patrician ruling-class once built houses. The present church dates from the 18th century, but, previously the site housed another church which was burned down in 1695. In 1945 there was another fire here, which again necessitated building works. The three small chapels which are part of the Egidienkirche (Tetzel chapel, St. Wolfgang Chapel and Eucharius chapel) are extremely interesting. The Tetzel chapel was a gift to the city by the family of the same name and closer investigation reveals visible reminders of the family are present in the church, mostly in the form of memorial plaques. The Eucharius Chapel is the oldest of the three (1200) and St. Wolfgang's chapel was built in 1437.
