This museum was opened in 1991 near the Ikegami-Sone Ruins, one of the largest archaeological sites related to the Yayoi culture. Using historic materials gathered from all over Japan, reproductions of ancient objects and the latest audiovisual equipment, the museum introduces the visitor to Japanese culture during the Yayoi Period (from around the 3rd-4th century B.C. to around the 3rd century A.D.). Among the museum's interesting exhibits are a model of the palace of Himiko, the Queen of Yamataikoku, and a reproduction of a rice field that depicts realistic scenes of planting and harvesting, based on the results of archaeological and folkloric studies.
