It is easy to see why it is said that the pirates of the 17th and 18th centuries favoured this cave to hide their booty. Though the subterranean enclave may have a plain name, its characteristics are anything but plain. Bats often cover the stalagmites and stalactites in this lofty cavern full of nooks and crannies. A flashlight is a necessity to navigate the one-mile underground path to the sea. Less adventurous types may want to inquire about taking a guide. The Cave is about five miles north of Hatchet Bay off Queen’s Highway.
