The Chicago Herald erected this stone globe in 1892 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the explorer's landing in the New World. However, the geographic location of the site and historical studies state it is unlikely that this is the actual spot. Nonetheless, getting there is half the fun if you're the outdoors type. You'll have to trek through East Beach on Crab Cay by foot. A few tiny villages and plantation ruins are on your way there. Trail maps are available at hotels and many stores on the island.
