Oxford is known as the "City of Dreaming Spires", a term coined by Matthew Arnold based on the architecture of the world famous University buildings. Oxford has been the home of royalty and scholars for over 800 years.
The „real“ Alice from Alice in Wonderland is called Alice Liddell, and was the daughter of the Dean at Christ Church College, a friend of Lewis Carroll.
The Great Hall at Christ Church College inspired the makers of the Harry Potter films. Hogwarts dining hall resembles the Great Hall. Even the staircase leading to the hall was used in some of the scenes.
