WebsitePerth throws a major celebration on Australia Day and practically the whole city shows up for the fun. The excitement starts early with activities on the Perth foreshore. Water displays take place on the Swan River and a mid-afternoon air show draws huge crowds. An excellent line-up of local acts perform at the Esplanade park in the city, starting with the Survival concert in recognition of Indigenous Australia. However, the true event happens when the sun goes down...fireworks. Central Perth overflows with people as they vie for the best spots to watch. While the city offers an exhilarating atmosphere, there are also a number of excellent vantage points along the river. Admission is free.
