Cambodian New Year falls in mid April, but the exact date varies from year to year. The timing of the New Year coincides with the peak of the dry season, a time when traditionally there was little work to be done in agriculture, because the rice had been harvested and processed for storage and the fields were too dry to be ploughed and sown. Festivities center on The Riverfront and Wat Phnom. Like the Thais, Khmers celebrate by visiting wats (temples), and throwing talcum powder and water at each other.
