On the full moon day in November each year, the Tonlé Sap river sees a number of well-decorated boats participating in the Festival of Reversing Current (Bon Om Tuk). Each boat is carved with serpent heads that symbolize rainbows and fertility. With forty rowers in each, they row fast and furiously towards the finish line which is the Buddhist temple. The entire event lasts for three days and ends with the colorfully decorated vessels lined up at the Mekong.
