Between 1618 and 1866 the Khmer capital switched a number of times between Phnom Penh and the nearby town of Oudong. Though Oudong itself is quite pleasant, the main attraction in this area today is the Oudong Hill area (Phnom Oudong) outside the town. Here you will find a number of temples which offer impressive views of the surrounding plain. There are also stupas that house the remains of a number of Khmer monarchs. Air-conditioned buses leave for Oudong from the Central Market every 45 minutes (cost USD0.50).
