Urban renewal, which runs citywide, has definitely made its mark on this neighborhood. The cobblestone streets of old Portland file through the city's first warehouse district. Some would consider this part of town, home to more than 24 galleries and boutiques, to be the heart of the art scene. The First Thursday of the month is an art free-for-all, when galleries open their doors to the public.
